With 2017 now upon us and for me personally being back at work full time as of Monday, it is an interesting time to reflect on the 2016 calendar year.
If you sat at your desk last January and asked yourself the following questions, do you think you would have answered any of them correctly?
Who will win US election? Who will win the EPL title? The NRL title? The AFL title? It certainly was a year for the underdog and in The Donald's case
2017 will certainly be an interesting year just watching which DJP the new President becomes. Being a business owner myself for most of my working
life I am intrigued to see if he can actually trade America as a business and not be influenced away from his core business practices by special
interest groups/media etc? John Key here in New Zealand certainly proved a successful businessman can turn a country around, but John Key in my
opinion wasn't as much of an ego-maniac as DJP so that to me is the elephant in the room.
I'm not sure this will effect the New Zealand market, would expect the NZ dollar to remain high and that helps importers (and consumers) but not exporters.
Not sure if it makes business owners here in NZ look to sell or will it make them look to buy? There is no precedent for what just happened in
the US election so everything is speculation from this point.
It's going to be interesting to watch though and with the media available to us in the modern world we will certainly have a front row seat :)
