Choose social media platforms that suit your business

Thursday, September 24, 2015

Welcome to part two of our series where I’m explaining the exciting world that is social media. Having previously looked at WHY your business needs to build a social media presence, we’re now going to look at WHICH social media platforms you should be on.

WHICH?

There are a number of different social media platforms available, with new ones entering the scene all the time. However your business doesn’t need to be active on ALL of them. It’s important that you choose the channels that are right for your business.

The main platforms I use on a professional level for both Switch Business and my online identity A Social Native are:

  • Facebook (both)
  • Twitter (both)
  • LinkedIn (for Switch Business and a personal account)
  • Instagram (A Social Native)

(NOTE: I might have a little more time to spend on multiple platforms as social media IS my job!).

Remember your business doesn’t need to be active on all social media platforms and here’s the big reason why:

There’s no point spending time and money on a platform where your audience isn’t active.

For example if you’re a local cafe you probably wouldn’t spend too much time on LinkedIn as it’s more of a B2B or business professional platform. It might be better for you to look at more visual platforms such as Instagram, Pinterest or Facebook, where you can showcase images of your products etc.

Please remember that most businesses and franchise systems are unique and so what works well for one business might not work as well for yours. There’s a fair bit to consider when starting out on social media, but this is something we can help you with using the joint experience of myself (Nicollette) and David, who’s been in the franchising game for over 20 years.

If you’re interested in discussing the idea of social media for your business or franchise, please feel free to contact us at any time. Here are the social media services we offer so take a look to see if we can help you out.
